4 Things You Need Do In Spring To Take Care Your Skin

Spring signals the end of the wintry months, the thawing of the snow, and the beginning of a warmer weather. And while we say goodbye to the winter blues and welcome the spring greens, we also make changes for the transition --- wearing more light-hued clothing, opting for lighter makeup, and the likes.

How to take care of your skin in Spring

But the coming of spring (and eventually, summer) also means drastic changes for our skin. The long, cold months tend to be drying which then leads to more pressing skin issues --- redness, itching, flaking and peeling. For some, transitioning from winter (dry skin) to spring (atmosphere becomes warmer and more humid causing the skin to sweat out more) even bring about the dreaded eczema flare-ups.

How can we make our skin cope up with the seasonal change, soothe and prevent flare-ups and, most of all, revive our complexions? Below are the 4 simple Spring Skin Care how-tos to achieve just that!

Hydrate Your Skin From The Inside

Our body is made up of 60% water. It’s a crucial component of our every cell’s life and is necessary building material. Without water, our body will have a difficult time repairing cells and replenishing dead ones, flushing out toxins, as well as metabolizing and transporting nutrients to its parts. Dehydration or our lack of water consumption could cause skin issues such as:

  • Dry Skin
  • Breakouts (as our body is unable to flush out toxins), and,
  • Premature wrinkling among many others

What To Do:

  • Drink as much water as your body needs – when your system signals thirst, it’s better to reach for plain drinking water than juices or other sugar-laden drinks
  • Eat fresh veggies and fruits – especially those that are high in water like watermelon, strawberries, pineapples, and cucumber
  • Go easy on salty and fried foods

Skin Exfoliating And Skin Cleansing – Do Them Both!

Some of us feel that we have to give up one of these skin regimens (most likely exfoliating!) when the season changes but in truth, we can do them both. Exfoliating helps in getting rid of the rougher and drier uppermost layer part of the skin. Cleansing, on the other hand, takes care of our skin’s daily cleaning needs so as to keep our facial skin free from makeup and other pollutants that could cause breakouts.

What To Do:

  • Exfoliate only ONCE or TWICE a week – use exfoliating products that contain beta-hydroxy acids. If you opt for natural scrubs, use those with brown sugar. Avoid skin scrubbing products that have apricot pits or walnut shells as they’re rougher and tend to irritate or break the skin.
  • Cleanse your skin TWICE daily, in the morning and in the evening before you go to bed – use cleansers that contain natural ingredients like the LE’VEA Anti-Aging Radiance Hydrating Cleanser which works great for both dry and oily skin types. It also contains components that double as exfoliating agents.

Don’t Forget To Moisturize

Moisturizers are a must-have after the drying winter months as they help rebuild the skin and top up its lost moisture. It’s ideal to use a moisturizing product that not only nourishes the skin but also protects it.

What To Do:

  • Look for moisturizers that contain vitamin E or those that are formulated with natural oils – vitamin E and the natural oils act as emollients keeping the skin from drying out.
  • Another ingredient that’s a must in moisturizers is glycolic acid - glycolic acid removes the skin’s uppermost layer – the one rife with dead skin cells – to reveal the younger, more glowing skin underneath.

These two ingredients are found in LE’VEA’s C+ Antioxidant Wrinkle Reduction Serum and Biotic Repair Anti-Aging Night Cream. You can use the former during the daytime and the latter at night before capping off your day with sleep.

SPF, SPF And More SPF

Most skin experts stressed out the importance of using products with SPF (Sun Protection Factor) all throughout the year regardless of the changing seasons. One of the most important reasons for doing that is skin cancer prevention. And as the climate gets warmer, there’s a greater chance will be spending some of our days under the sun.

What To Do:

  • Use different sunscreens for your body and your face, unless, the product you’re using states it’s good for both – most of us don’t include sunscreen products in our beauty budgets and for the want to save, we use the sunblock we use for our body on our face. However, unless the product clearly states that it can be used for the face, it’s best if you buy two sunscreens – one for your face and the other for your body. It’s because facial skin tends to be more sensitive and using a sunblock specifically made for the body could cause breakouts and other irritations.
  • You can still go through your daily beauty routine, just top it off with sunscreen – putting on sunblock doesn’t mean you can forego the moisturizer. If you feel using two products on your face and topping them with makeup is too much, opt for light moisturizers and sunscreens.

With these tips in mind, breeze your way through spring!
